Bill Ramos, who moved recently from Stuart to Jensen Beach is announcing his candidacy for the office of State Representative Florida House District 81. Mr. Ramos is a 47 year old former U S Marine, Mortgage Broker, Realtor, owner of Riverside Mortgages, father of five and grandfather of 2 will be running on the Democratic ticket and challenging Republican Gayle Harrell.
Mr. Ramos has been actively involved as a precinct volunteer in the Martin County Democratic Party for some time.
The local issues which he deems to be of utmost importance are:
The River: The current condition and continuing decline of the St. Lucie is the direct result of years of disregard and mismanagement of the entire system. Until now, all we have gotten from the Republican controlled Florida House is lip-service without any substantive action to begin repairing an eco-system which has virtually collapsed. An immediate and far reaching answer to this problem would be to eliminate the current South Florida Water Management Appointees and replace them with an elected group that truly represents the people, and NOT just the special interest groups.
Growth: A sensible, balanced approach to growth can be achieved by working closely with agencies such as the Treasure Coast Planning Council and environmental groups such as the Audubon Society and the Rivers Coalition. In this way, we can ensure well-planned, properly managed and responsible growth where necessary in Martin and St. Lucie County as well as the entire Treasure Coast.
Education: Our children's education is a gift we give to the future. We need Public Schools that don't just train our children to just pass the FCAT, but teach our children how to think and learn. We need professional, dedicated and well paid teachers who can afford to dedicate and focus themselves on our children's educational needs. We must give these teachers and students the tools necessary to keep America on top. The recent refusal of a large corporation to move to the Treasure Coast because of "insufficiently trained people" is indicative of the failure of our system due to under-funding schools and relying on the FCAT test as a measure of success. Our children must be more than we are or we risk backsliding as a nation.
