Take to the Streets April 28th to Change America!
The Democratic majority in the U.S. House and Senate stood with the American people, passing a bill that would both fund our troops and begin the process to bring them home. President Bush's impending veto of the Iraq War supplemental bill is an insult to the brave men and women who risk their lives everyday for our country and to the majority of Americans who voted for change in November. It's clear that President Bush sees no end in sight. America needs to elect a Democratic president in 2008 so we can bring our troops home. It's time to take action now. Sign up to participate in the Democratic National Organizing Day on April 28. Our regional directors will help organize events to get the Democratic message out across the state.
ACTION ALERT! Send Don Brown a Message!
"Don't forget to pay your taxes -- 12-million illegal aliens are depending on you!" This is the insensitive message Republican State House Rep. Don Brown fired off to his colleagues on a state-issued email account last week. This is unacceptable, and Floridians deserve much more from their elected officials. Democratic Sen. Frederica Wilson found Brown's email "insulting, dehumanizing and unnecessary," the Miami Herald reported. While many members of the Legislature -- Democrats and Republicans -- were outraged, Rep. Brown later backed away from his own apology, saying: "I don't understand at all why they were offended. I see absolutely nothing wrong with the e-mail." We need to follow Sen. Wilson's lead, and send Brown a message today. Let him know that this type of divisive, offensive rhetoric has no place in our Legislature. Email him by clicking here now.
Where's Republican Congressman Dave Weldon (FL-15) when we need him? Do-Nothing Dave has consistently opposed efforts that would help Floridians, voted against improved health care for veterans and increased national security. He also voted for escalating the war, but against setting benchmarks to hold the Iraqis accountable for their own security. Inexplicably, he even opposed enhancing medical services for active duty forces, mobilized personnel and their family members and opposed increasing veterans' health care priorities including maintenance at veterans' health care facilities such as Walter Reed. The people deserve better than Do-Nothing Dave Weldon. Read more here.
Congressman Tim Mahoney Making Strides for Floridians
Last week, Party Chair Karen Thurman wrote an email about Congressman Tim Mahoney's (FL-16) admirable leadership in less than four months in Congress. He is the leading the debate on issues important to Florida, including insurance reform, veterans' affairs, small business enhancement and protection of the Everglades.
Karl Rove has made it a priority to take back Republican Mark Foley's old seat in 2008. The GOP has already kicked off a nasty, misleading campaign against him in the newspapers. Fight back by writing a letter-to-the-editor of your local newspapers. You can read more about the Congressman's hard work here. Write a letter to the Editor and show your support.

Congratulations to New Port Richey Democrats Bob Consalvo, Rob Marlowe and Marilynn deChant on their election to the City Council last week. Because of the hard work of the Pasco County DEC, Democrats hold a 4-1 majority on the Council.
