Vote Today to Re-Elect Servian; Democrats On The Rise In Sarasota
The Party has endorsed Mary Anne Servian in her re-election bid for Sarasota City Commissioner. Her excellent environmental record, her ability to effectively address real problems facing Sarasota's citizens such as traffic and affordable housing, and her dedication to public service make her an excellent asset to Sarasota. See for yourself at www.electservian.com.
A growing and active Democratic population in Sarasota County will help put Servian over the top again in this once-safe Republican region. Democrats have added 10,000 new voters in the county since 2000 while Republicans have lost the majority among registered voters, adding 80% fewer new voters in recent years. University of South Florida Political Science professor Susan MacManus calls the area "very competitive now," and even the Chairman of the Sarasota Republican Party says, "Democrats have become empowered." Please take the time to read this great article in the Sarasota Herald-Tribune: "Democrats Feeling Empowered in Sarasota."
Take to the Streets April 28th to Change America!
The days of a do-nothing Republican Congress are over, but the days of a disastrous Republican Presidency aren't quite over yet. The Democratic majority in the US House and Senate stood with the American people, passing a bill that would both fund our troops and begin the process to bring them home. President Bush's impending veto of the Iraq War supplemental bill is an insult to the majority of Americans who voted for change in November and to the brave men and women who risk their lives everyday for our country. It's clear that President Bush sees no end in sight. America needs to elect a Democratic president in 2008 so we can bring our troops home. It's time to take action now. Sign up to take part in the Democratic National Organizing Day on April 28 at www.democrats.org/50StateCanvass. Our regional directors will help to organize events in the coming weeks to get the Democratic message out across the state.
