HD-49 Special Election: We Can Do This!
There has been an incredible response to Darren Soto's campaign to be the next State Representative from District 49. The coordinated Party effort on the ground is demonstrating real progress. Winning this seat puts us on track to win the pivotal I-4 corridor in 2008. In 2006, Democrats won the state's Hispanic vote for the first time since 1976. Let's keep this momentum going!

We must do what we can to ensure Soto's election and help deliver Central Florida to the Democratic presidential nominee in 2008. Please help by volunteering or sending a donation to his campaign today. Learn more about Soto and his campaign at www.darrensoto.com.

Inexplicably, Republicans Reject Voting Machine Paper Trail
Last week, a State House panel voted on party lines to reject common sense legislation to require a paper trail for Florida elections with Republicans voting against. Republican Dennis Baxley, a staunch opponent of fair elections, lashed out in response to criticism: "The fact is some people just don't like the outcome of elections so they question the integrity of the system."

Even Republican Governor Charlie Crist (who we're pretty sure liked the outcome of the 2006 election) is on our side because a verifiable paper trail just makes sense. We have to restore the people's confidence in elections, and that means requiring a paper trail.  Read More

Miller Reelected, Iorio Pledges to Tackle Mass Transit
Recently reelected Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio pledged to tackle the traffic problem with a plan for a light rail system in one of Florida's largest cities. In other Tampa news, City Council member Gwen Miller won a run-off to return to the Council and subsequently was reelected to Chair for the fourth time. Also, fellow Democratic member John Dingfelder was elected Vice-Chair.

Congratulations to the Florida Gators!
Last night, the University of Florida men's basketball team won their second consecutive national championship. The Party congratulates them on their phenomenal success!

Party Voter File Complete and Ready for Action!
Thanks to the letters and calls from concerned Floridians to the Secretary of State, the Florida Democratic Party has finally received a completed voter file and is uploading it into the Voter Activation Network (VAN) system. The further utilization of VAN is just one of the many ways we plan on achieving incredible success in 2008. Thank you for all of your help in getting this matter resolved!
