2012 - 2016 Martin County Democratic Executive Committee Officers

Martin County Democrats

The Martin County Democratic Executive Committee

is made up of community leaders who are knowledgeable in local politics and particularly the politics of the precincts in which they live. These people are known as precinct captains and have been duly elected to fill those positions for 4 years. Appointed precinct captains are chosen to fill those precincts that are not filled and are revisited yearly until the presidential election year. All precincts are gender balanced (One man and one woman are elected as precinct captains in each precinct). There is no fee involved in becoming a precinct captain, but there is work and responsibility and you must be a registered Democrat in Martin County to be a member. The Martin County Democrats are proud of each and every member of the DEC.

The 2014 - 2018 Martin County Democratic Executive Committee Officers:

He has a Bachelor's Degree in English from Lehman College of the City University of New York and a Master's Degree in Special Education from Queens College. He worked as a middle school teacher in the New York City Public Schools in the Bronx where he was a proud member of the UFT/AFT.

Tony supervised 19 case managers who worked with over 1,200 clients in Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Okeechobee Counties.

In 2001 he began working at Gulfstream Goodwill Industries as Program Coordinator for the Goodwill Adult Day Training Program. He supervises a staff of 19 and continues to work there at this time.

Tony has been married to Mary Wescott Higgins since 2001 and is the father of two sons and three stepsons. He is also a proud member of the River Warriors, a group of activists committed to the fight for clean water, here and throughout the State of Florida.
