Sid Dinerstein, Republican Party Chair Gets Nasty, Calls Mahoney a "Slimeball"

Dinerstein Remarks About Mahoney Called "Despicable" and "Unacceptable"

Lantana, Florida
- Palm Beach County Democratic Executive Committee chairman Wahid Mahmood today has issued a strong statement demanding a public apology from Sid Dinerstein, the Republican Party chairman of Palm Beach County, to 16th Congressional District Democratic candidate Tim Mahoney.

In response to the breaking news surrounding the Mark Foley resignation on Friday, Dinerstein is quoted in the Saturday, September 30, 2006, South Florida Sun-Sentinel, as saying of Mahoney, Foley's Democratic opponent, "He's a slime ball" and "...Mahoney gets to crawl back under the rock he crawled out of."

"These remarks from Sid Dinerstein are despicable," says Mr. Mahmood. "This is a blatant attempt at character assassination from a Republican Party official, and it is absolutely wrong and unacceptable. I demand a public apology to Tim Mahoney."

Mr. Mahmood further states, "While the Republicans have done their usual hit jobs on personal issues, Tim Mahoney has been running a spirited campaign on the issues that are important to the people of the 16th Congressional District -- homeowner's insurance, education, health care, the war on terror, and other issues that affect real people's lives. The Democratic Party is proud of Tim Mahoney's campaign, and we stand strongly behind him as the person who will best represent the 16th District"

"Tim Mahoney and the Democratic Party are right on the issues," Mahmood continues. "The national Republican Party publicly announced their plan to spend millions to run a negative campaign and attack Democratic candidates personally in this election, and that is just plain wrong. Rather than discuss issues people care about, they are attempting to deceive Americans. Sid Dinerstein is following the GOP party line, and, I repeat, his remarks about Tim Mahoney are absolutely despicable -- I demand that he issue a public apology."
